Hello everyone,
My name is Thomas from Holland. I hope you don't mind I'm doing this introduction in English. In October I bought a 406 coupé in Bolzano. The seller didn't have the maintenance and repair history of the car. He doesn't respond to my e-mails anymore. A signed letter is about to be sent to the company but I have little faith in a proper answer.
I am now trying to figure out if it's possible to track the last owner so I can contact him myself. If i'm really lucky someone of you might be or know the last owner. Is there any way to find out more through the old license plate number?
Here's some pictures:

Hi,
did you buy the car from a private person or from a company? Did the company own the car or was it just advertising a private sale?

Hi, I bought it from a company and it was their car, but the seller said he knew who the last owner was. He would try to contact him and send me the maintenance history by post but he doesn't respond anymore.

Welcome dear Thomas, unfortunately it is impossible to trace the exact history of the machine, should any of us be able to do the title search to the italian PRA.

Even if the car was always repaired by official Peugeot service?
Did not they take a trace of maintainence?
Chiede lumi.

Hi Thomas and welcome.
I understand the seller didn't give you a copy of the italian document of the car named "Libretto di circolazione".
If he did, you should be able to read on it the name of the previous owner.
Than, on facebook.it or linkedin you could try to find him, if you are (really) lucky and he want to reply...
ciao Thomas e benvenuto.

Hi Albosan,
I only received the papers that were needed to put the car on my name. The previous owner as far as I could find is the company that sold it to me. I could check the papers more carefully but they're in the car (it's not at my home).
I'm going to send a signed letter asking for the papers today.

If the previous owner is the company it's very unlikely you'll find the real previous owner.
If you have the italian reg plate (a picture is enough) we might be able to check who the owner was using the online PRA (public automobile register) information service, which costs ~6€. But it's unlikely you'll find any useful info there.
You can contact any Peugeot dealer, they will have all the car's history and the names of the previous owners if they serviced it via a Peugeot official workshop. However, they are not actually legally allowed to share such an information. You may find that they will refuse to tell you anything.
If nothing works, send a letter with checked delivery threatening legal action... that usually works.
Where did you buy the car? some of us could try to "scare" them by phoning and letting them know you have someone on the Italian ground to help you out.

Thanks for the answers so far. I'll wait for a reply from the company first, if that doesn't help I'll post further details of them. :207

make a complete service of the car included timing belts and you'll never have problems. Even if you bought the car in north Italy also there they cancel the original kilometers and hide the manutenction book..
ps. very nice with power roof..

The timing belt has been done, there's some other things that need to be done bit it'll be ok. But because it's a car with a low mileage I'd like to know the history if I ever want to sell it.

They will not tell you who the last owner was. They probably lowered the KM reading of the car, so if you contacted the last owner he'd be able to tell you the truth... they'll try to avoid that
